As Maharashtra’s most popular hill station, Mahabaleshwar abounds with destinations for sightseeing and picnicking. At the same time, there are several destinations around Mahabaleshwar which are of equal tourist interest. All these places are within a range of 30 to 80 km from the town and can be conveniently reached by car/taxi/bus.
Panchgini
On the way to Mahabaleshwar from Pune, Panchgani is a quaint little town known for its perennially salubrious climate. The famed tableland of Panchgani attracts tourists in large numbers and is a popular filming spot. The town is home to several prestigious residential schools.
Pratapgarh Fort
Located at a distance of 24 kilometers from Mahabaleshwar, Pratapgarh Fort bears mute testimony to the heroic deeds of the great Maratha leader, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Fort houses a temple dedicated to goddess Bhavani Mata and a seventeen feet statue of Shivaji. Near the fort lies the dargah of Afzal Khan, who was killed in a clash with the Maratha warrior king.
